Today marks the first day of autumn and whilst it’s sad to say goodbye to summer for another year, there are so many wonderful things about the chilly months. For example; hot drinks, cosy blankets, and movie nights to name but a few!

With the nights drawing in and the temperatures gradually dropping, now’s the time to start thinking about how to get your home ready for the change of season. Luckily for you, we’ve put together a few handy ideas to get you and your home ready for the chillier months to come.

We’re going to cover:

  • Nighttime lighting
  • Electrical safety
  • Energy efficiency

Nighttime Lighting

With the nights getting longer, make sure you have more lighting around your home to make your space more usable and safer all round.

Electrical Safety

As we’ll be spending more time at home, make sure you cover up any empty sockets so that your children and pets can’t get hurt themselves whilst they’re exploring.

Make sure you check that your electrics are working properly. Look out for heat, noise and any electrical sparks. Our electrical usage goes up in the colder months and the last thing you want to wake up to is a broken kettle as you’re making your morning coffee.

Before the cold weather really sets in, make sure you check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms – it only takes a minute or so and dramatically increases the safety of your home.

Energy Efficiency

Give your home that cosy glow by switching to low energy lightbulbs – these will save you money in the long run too so it’s a win-win.

With electrical usages going up in autumn and winter, we can often find ourselves putting the heating on much more than we would normally and have lights on all over the house. This is a great time to work on making your space more energy-efficient, it’s great for the planet and great for your wallet.
