Introduction: Student Flat Conversion Electrics
Pennine House is a block of 47 student flats in Loughborough providing accommodation for nearby Loughborough University. Local main contractor Scope Construction were tasked with converting the former office block into luxury student flats. We were required to deliver the electrics for the basement, plant room, communal areas and rooms. Our tender was successful and we began work in February 2023 aiming to complete for September 2023, in time for the new academic year.
The Story of Pennine House
The office block required significant conversion and refurbishment for it be inhabitable in time for the upcoming 2023/24 academic year.
Pennine House, designed to meet the needs of modern student living, was an electrical project that demanded attention to detail. Glenfield Electrical took the reins in ensuring that the electrical infrastructure of Pennine House was not only efficient but also safe.
The Challenge
One of the primary challenges for the Pennine House project was the strict timeline. The goal was to ensure that all electrical work was completed before the start of the academic year, a task that required precise planning and efficient execution. Glenfield Electrical was entrusted with managing this timeline, and we were dedicated to meeting this critical milestone.
Our responsibilities for Pennine House encompassed:
– Installation of seven 3-phase distribution boards
– Implementing containment
– Data cabling
– Lighting and power
– Communal area heating
– Electrical supply for mechanical works
– Electrical supply for fire alarm systems
– Installation of sockets, extractors, towel rails, and spurs
– Testing and commissioning
